What Are The Best Keywords For A Church Website?

So you’ve spent time and effort building a church website. I have shown you how with my guide to church websites. Do you think people will just start flocking to your church right now? Wrong! This is just the beginning. Optimize your church’s website for Google, Bing, and Yahoo. But how can you do this?

This article will show you how to optimize your site using keywords to ensure that people searching for churches in your area can find yours.

What are Keywords?

Before we dive into the details of keywords for church websites, let’s first define what they are.

Two types of keywords are possible: “meta keywords” or “targeted keywords”.

Keywords are words or phrases that describe the content of your page. This page is, for example, about keywords related to church websites.

An unseen area of web page design that provided the “meta keywords for a page” was a key component in years past. It was often the same topic as the page, but it was only visible to search engine crawlers. Google explicitly states that they no longer use these keywords.

This does not mean you should not be able to learn keywords and how they can be used in your website’s content. Your keywords should be included in your content.

Churches make the most of their website content by having very little content and not understanding the importance of keywords.

Take a look at these slogans from churches.

  • “A place where everyone feels at home.”
  • “An introspective group of believers.”
  • “No perfect people allowed. “

These slogans aren’t bad and communicate well to visitors to your website. But how do they relate to search engines about what your site is all about? You could call it a bar, meditation group or prison.

The keywords are what describe your page and your site as a whole. These keywords should be included in your content.

How to Find Keywords for Church Websites.

Okay, now you know what keywords are. You need to consider how people search for churches. Including keywords on your church website for people who aren’t searching for them is not a good idea.

Even though you could have the most optimized page for Christ-followers in Corpus Christi (or any other term), nobody will be searching for it. How do you find out what people are looking for when they search for a church?

This is the question you should ask yourself. What would you look for when trying to find a church if I were new in my area? It would be something like this.

Catholic Church in Corpus Christi? Peoria Pentecostal Church? What about the Non-Denominational Church in Nantucket?

How about this? What about Christian youth activities in Your Town? You could also consider Bible studies in Your Town.

Do you see the picture?

People search for keywords that match what they are looking for. Even if you sound trendy, it will not translate into what a searcher typed in the search box to find a church.

Keywords can help you be more intentional.

Your keyword targeting can be more precise. A tool can tell you how many people search for a particular phrase each month and which phrases they use. You can use up to 10 keywords daily for free. It’s called Keyword Locator.

This tool allowed me to see if people were looking for churches in other cities. It also revealed the type of church that people were looking for.

That tool allowed me to target enough keywords to ensure that over 200 people visit our church web page ;each month. Let me give you an example.

Examples of Church Keywords

These are just a few cases I took from our church’s website. Let’s find out which keywords I was targeting.

What keywords did your research yield? Here’s what I targeted.

  • Vineyard Church
  • Non-Denominational Church
  • Spirit-filled Church
  • Christian Church

Guess who pops up when someone searches for a Christian Church or Vineyard Church, a Non-Denominational Church, a Spirit-Filled Church in San Carlos?

Here’s something else that I did.

I created a page for every community within 10 miles of us. It includes information about the community, as well as any activities or people that are there.

What happens if they search for one keyword in the list but not their local community?

This page was targeted at San Francisco Church, which is located 20 miles away. However, it receives 2,000 searches each month. Because we are in the Bay area, some of these are from our region.

Now you should be able to see the point. Although I cannot answer your question about the best keywords for church websites, I can tell that they will look very similar to mine, just modified for the church type and location you serve.

I hope you found this helpful.
