Finding God’s Goodness In Your Life

God’s Goodness – A Revelation Of Himself And His Glory

Every time I think of God’s goodness I am reminded of the exchange Moses had with God concerning God’s glory. Moses asked God to show him His glory (Ex 33:18).

God did something astounding. He hid Moses in a rock and made all his goodness pass by. Contained in this same encounter, Moses heard God say: His glory would pass by, His goodness would pass by, and “I” pass by (Ex 33:19-23).

God describes Himself as “abounding in goodness” (Ex 34:6). This tells me that God’s abounding goodness is contained in himself and is a revelation of His glory.

Goodness is reflective of its source. What is good embodies goodness. Good, by definition is: having the right desirable properties, morally correct, virtuous, beneficial, efficient, thorough, considerable, not less than.

Glory is often thought of as the manifest presence of God. Could it be that the glory of God is God’s goodness manifested?

I see God as someone who has right and desirable properties; he is morally correct, virtuous, a giver of benefits, is efficient, thorough, considerate, and of course not less than the most in everything he is and does.

The very definition of good is embodied in God.

The Goodness Of God Revealed In Jesus

Look at Jesus. The Bible tells us that God’s son was “the express image of His person…” (Heb 1:3). Jesus, the son, did and said only what the Father told him to do and say. That is “he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil…” (Acts 10:38).

The “doing good” that Jesus did was the manifestation of God’s goodness and glory. When Jesus raised Lazarus for the dead, he said, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” Lazarus, once raised from the dead was a revelation of God’s goodness. Not only to his family but to the Jews who were there as well.

Many of us have never seen someone raised from the dead, let alone prayed for a dead person. We see this as God’s goodness working through Jesus, and “I’m not Jesus.”

I maintain that most of us are unaware of God’s goodness in our lives. (After all, if you are a believer, Jesus lives in you.) If it’s not miraculous, it’s not God’s goodness.

What if we allowed ourselves to think the way of our definition: Is it virtuous? Is it a benefit? Is it right, considerate, or thorough? Is it good?

It could be an avoided accident, a found item, or remembering what we needed while shopping. What if we recognized the good things in our day? The mistake caught at work before the problem, the expressions of love in our relationships, our physical abilities, the enjoyment of a smile or good laugh, the continual presence of God.

Would we begin to see that God’s goodness is operating on an everyday moment by moment basis?

Would we begin to be like Jesus and expect God’s goodness to manifest? Maybe we would find ourselves thankful for the abundance of God’s goodness and glory.

The Goodness Of God In Your Life

I guarantee you God’s goodness is working in your life every day! Being aware of and thankful for that goodness will bring relief from anxiety, depression, frustration, and much more.

The same God that raised Jesus from the dead is working mightily in you dispensing his goodness.

Look for that goodness and know that the more you recognize it, the more you are thankful for it, the more you will see the glory of God and God’s goodness.

Be blessed and enjoy God’s goodness every day.
