How to Allow the Holy Spirit to Take Control

Introduction

The Holy Spirit is one of the three persons of the Trinity, along with God the Father and Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is the giver of life, the comforter, the helper, and the guide.

As Christians, we believe that the Holy Spirit is always present with us, but to truly experience the fullness of His power and presence in our lives, we must allow Him to take control.

Allowing the Holy Spirit to take control means surrendering our own will and desires to Him, and allowing Him to guide and direct our lives. It requires us to be open to His leading and to follow His promptings, no matter where they may lead us.

It may not always be easy, but the rewards of allowing the Holy Spirit to take control are abundant.

When the Holy Spirit takes control, we experience a deep sense of peace, comfort, and joy, even in the midst of life’s challenges. We are able to overcome temptations and challenges and live a life that is pleasing to God.

Our relationship with God becomes deeper and more meaningful, and we become more like Jesus in our thoughts, words, and actions.

In this blog post, we will explore the steps that we can take to allow the Holy Spirit to take control of our lives. From surrendering to God to living a life of obedience, we will examine the different ways in which we can open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit’s leading and guidance.

Whether you are a new believer or have been following Jesus for many years, this blog post is designed to encourage and inspire you to seek the Holy Spirit’s control in your life.

Holy Spirit in the Bible

Surrender to God

The first step in allowing the Holy Spirit to take control is to surrender to God. This means acknowledging that we are not in control and that God is the one who guides our lives. We need to let go of our own desires and plans and trust in God’s plan for us.

As Romans 12:1-2 states, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Surrendering to God can be a difficult and ongoing process, as we are naturally inclined to want to control our own lives. However, as we surrender our lives to God, we will begin to experience a sense of peace and fulfillment that can only come from following God’s plan for us.

When we surrender to God, we are giving Him control over our lives and allowing Him to lead us in the direction that He has planned for us.

Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance

Prayer is a powerful tool that allows us to connect with God and receive guidance from the Holy Spirit. We can pray for the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us in all aspects of our lives, including our thoughts, words, and actions.

As we pray, we should be open to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and be willing to follow where he leads.

Prayer is a conversation with God and a way for us to express our desires and concerns to Him. It is also a way for us to listen to what God has to say and to receive guidance and wisdom from the Holy Spirit.

When we pray, we should approach God with a humble and open heart, ready to receive His guidance and to follow His will for our lives.

Read the Bible

Reading the Bible is a great way to allow the Holy Spirit to take control. By reading God’s word, we are exposed to His truth and can receive guidance and wisdom from the Holy Spirit. It’s important to not just read the Bible, but to also study it and apply its teachings to our lives.

As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Reading the Bible regularly will help us to develop a closer relationship with God and to understand His will for our lives. As we read, the Holy Spirit will bring the truths of the Bible to life for us, helping us to see how they apply to our lives and giving us the wisdom and guidance we need to live a life that is pleasing to God.

Attend church and participate in community

Attending church and participating in community with other believers is another way to allow the Holy Spirit to take control. In these environments, we can receive encouragement and support from others, as well as be exposed to teachings that can help us grow in our faith.

As Hebrews 10:25 states, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

In church and community, we have opportunities to pray, worship, and hear God’s word, which can all help us to grow in our relationship with the Holy Spirit. We can also use these opportunities to share our experiences and to support one another in our faith journeys.

When we participate in a community, we are surrounded by others who are also seeking to allow the Holy Spirit to take control, and this can provide us with a great source of encouragement and support.

Live a life of obedience

Finally, to allow the Holy Spirit to take control, we must live a life of obedience. This means following God’s commands and living according to His principles, even when it may not be easy or convenient. As John 14:15 states, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

Living a life of obedience requires us to have a deep and personal relationship with God, and to understand His will for our lives. When we live in obedience, we are demonstrating our trust in God and our willingness to follow His lead.

This not only allows the Holy Spirit to take control but also helps us to grow in our faith and to become more like Jesus.

Conclusion

Allowing the Holy Spirit to take control is a crucial aspect of our lives as Christians, and is essential for living a life that is pleasing to God.

By surrendering to God, praying for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, reading the Bible, attending church and participating in a community, and living a life of obedience, we can allow the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our lives.

May we seek the Holy Spirit’s control in our lives and trust in His guidance, knowing that He will lead us to where He wants us to be.
