What Does the Bible Say About Youth?

Introduction

As Christians, we are called to guide and support the youth in our communities. Today’s young people face unique challenges, such as social media, technology addiction, substance abuse, peer pressure, and academic stress.

In order to effectively support and guide youth, we must look to the Bible for guidance on how to navigate these challenges.

The Bible has much to say about youth. It describes youth as a time of strength, development, and growth, but also acknowledges the challenges that young people face.

As Evangelical Christians, we must understand what the Bible says about youth and how we can apply this knowledge to our lives and the lives of those around us.

In this blog post, we will explore what the Bible says about youth and how it can help us navigate the challenges of youth. We will examine the importance of youth in the church, the challenges faced by youth today, the value of wisdom, and the example of Jesus.

By understanding what the Bible says about youth and applying this knowledge to our lives, we can help young people overcome their challenges and develop into strong, mature adults who make a positive impact on the world.

youth in the Bible

Youth in the Bible

The Bible has many references to youth. The term “youth” is used to describe individuals who are in their early years of life. In the Old Testament, youth is often associated with strength and vigor.

In Proverbs 20:29 (NKJV), it says, “The glory of young men is their strength, And the splendor of old men is their gray head.” This verse indicates that youth is a time of strength and power.

In the New Testament, youth is often associated with growth and development. In 1 Timothy 4:12 (NKJV), it says, “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

This verse indicates that youth is a time of development and that young people should strive to be good examples to others.

Challenges Faced by Youth

Today’s youth face many challenges that the previous generations did not have to face. These challenges include social media, technology addiction, substance abuse, peer pressure, and academic stress. The Bible provides guidance on how to navigate these challenges.

In Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV), it says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” This verse indicates that parents and guardians have a responsibility to guide their children and teach them the right way to live.

Parents and guardians should monitor their children’s social media use and screen time, and should also educate their children on the dangers of substance abuse.

In addition, youth should surround themselves with positive influences. In 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV), it says, “Do not be deceived: ‘Evil company corrupts good habits.’”

This verse indicates that the people we surround ourselves with can have a significant impact on our behavior. Youth should seek out positive role models and mentors who can provide guidance and support.

The Importance of Youth in the Church

Youth play an important role in the church. They bring energy, enthusiasm, and fresh perspectives. In 1 Timothy 4:12 (NKJV), it says, “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

This verse indicates that young people have the ability to be positive role models for others in the church.

Youth should be encouraged to participate in church activities and ministries.

In 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (NKJV), it says,

“For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact, the body is not one member but many.”

This verse indicates that every member of the church, including youth, has an important role to play.

Youth can contribute to the church in various ways, such as through music ministry, youth ministry, and community service. Youth can also participate in Bible studies and prayer groups to deepen their faith and relationship with God.

By actively participating in the church, youth can develop strong relationships with other believers, which can help them navigate the challenges they face in their daily lives.

The Value of Wisdom

The Bible also emphasizes the importance of wisdom for young people. In Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV), it says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,

But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” This verse indicates that young people should seek wisdom and knowledge, and that the fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.

Youth should seek wisdom through reading and studying the Bible, as well as through prayer and seeking guidance from trusted spiritual leaders. In Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV), it says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom.

And in all your getting, get understanding.” This verse emphasizes the value of wisdom and encourages young people to actively seek it out.

By seeking wisdom and applying it to their daily lives, youth can make wise decisions and avoid the pitfalls that come with youth, such as peer pressure and substance abuse.

In Proverbs 3:13-18 (NKJV), it says,

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.”

The Example of Jesus

Finally, young people can look to the example of Jesus for guidance on how to live their lives. In Luke 2:52 (NKJV), it says, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”

This verse indicates that Jesus grew and developed in all areas of his life, and that he had a good reputation among both God and men.

Young people can emulate the example of Jesus by growing and developing in all areas of their lives, such as through academic, spiritual, and personal growth. They can also strive to have a good reputation by living according to the values and principles taught in the Bible.

In addition, young people can look to Jesus as a source of strength and comfort during difficult times.

In Hebrews 4:15-16 (NKJV), it says,

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

This verse indicates that Jesus understands our struggles and is always available to help us.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Bible provides guidance and wisdom for young people as they navigate the challenges of life. Youth is a time of strength, development, and growth, but it can also be a time of great challenge.

By seeking wisdom, surrounding themselves with positive influences, and looking to the example of Jesus, young people can overcome these challenges and live fulfilling lives.

As Evangelical Christians, we have a responsibility to support and guide the youth in our communities. We can do this by encouraging youth to participate in church activities, providing guidance and support, and modeling positive behaviors and attitudes.

By working together, we can help young people navigate the challenges of youth and develop into strong, mature adults who make a positive impact on the world.
