Top 5 Priorities in Christian Life

Introduction

As Christians, we have a responsibility to live our lives in a way that honors God. But with so many things demanding our attention, it can be challenging to know what our priorities should be. In this post, we’ll explore the top 5 priorities in Christian life, as revealed by the Word of God.

Living as a Christian is not always easy. There are many challenges we face every day, and sometimes it can be hard to know how to live our lives in a way that honors God. That’s why it’s so important to have a clear understanding of what our priorities should be.

The Bible provides us with clear guidance on how we should live as Christians. By following these principles, we can live our lives in a way that pleases God and brings Him glory.

In this post, we’ll take a closer look at the top 5 priorities in Christian life. We’ll examine what the Bible has to say about each of these priorities and how we can put them into practice in our daily lives.

priorities in the Bible

Priority #1: Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind

In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Loving God with all our being should be our top priority as Christians. It means putting Him above all else and seeking to please Him in everything we do.

Loving God with all our hearts means making Him the center of our lives. It means valuing Him above all else and seeking to honor Him in everything we do.

We can express our love for God through worship, prayer, and studying His Word. By making God the focus of our lives, we show Him that we value Him above all else.

One way we can love God is by spending time in His Word. The Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to us, and it is through His Word that we come to know Him and His will for our lives. When we study the Bible, we learn more about God’s character, His love for us, and His plan for our lives.

Another way we can love God is through prayer. Prayer is a powerful tool that allows us to communicate with God and to seek His guidance and wisdom. When we pray, we can express our love for God and thank Him for His blessings in our lives.

Priority #2: Love your neighbor as yourself

The second most important commandment, according to Jesus, is to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39). As Christians, we are called to love and serve others, just as Jesus loved and served us.

Loving our neighbors means showing kindness and compassion, even to those who are difficult to love. It means putting aside our own desires and priorities to serve the needs of others.

As James 2:15-16 says, “If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,’ but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?”

One way we can love our neighbors is by serving them. This can take many forms, such as volunteering at a local shelter or soup kitchen, visiting the sick or elderly, or simply lending a helping hand to someone in need. By serving others, we demonstrate the love of Christ and show them that they are valued and cared for.

Another way we can love our neighbors is by sharing the Gospel with them. The Gospel is the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, and it is the greatest gift we can give to others.

When we share the Gospel with others, we give them the opportunity to experience the love and grace of Christ for themselves. We can share the Gospel through our words, but also through our actions.

By living our lives in a way that reflects the love and grace of Christ, we can point others to Him and help them to see the truth of His message.

Priority #3: Obey God’s Word

God’s Word is the ultimate authority in our lives as Christians. It is through the Bible that God reveals His will and His plan for our lives. As Jesus says in John 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

Obedience to God’s Word means submitting our will to His and following His commands, even when it may be difficult or unpopular. It means trusting that God’s ways are better than our own and that His plans for our lives are good.

One way we can obey God’s Word is by studying it regularly. When we read and meditate on the Bible, we gain a deeper understanding of God’s character and His will for our lives. We can also learn from the examples of the men and women of faith who came before us and see how they obeyed God’s commands.

Another way we can obey God’s Word is by putting it into practice in our daily lives. This means living in a way that reflects the values and principles of the Bible. We can show love and compassion to others, avoid sin and temptation, and seek to honor God in all that we do.

Priority #4: Seek first the kingdom of God

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” This means that our top priority should be advancing God’s kingdom on earth and living in a way that honors Him.

Seeking first the kingdom of God means prioritizing our spiritual growth and investing our time, resources, and energy in things that matter to God. It means putting aside worldly pursuits and seeking after things that have eternal value.

One way we can seek first the kingdom of God is by investing in our relationship with Him. This means spending time in prayer and worship, studying His Word, and seeking to deepen our understanding of His will for our lives.

We can also seek to grow in our knowledge of Him by learning from other believers and by participating in Bible studies and other Christian activities.

Another way we can seek first the kingdom of God is by serving others. As we mentioned earlier, serving others is an important way of demonstrating the love of Christ and advancing His kingdom on earth.

When we serve others, we show them the love and compassion of God, and we also help to bring others into His kingdom.

Priority #5: Share the Gospel

As Christians, we have been entrusted with the message of the Gospel, which is the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. In Mark 16:15, Jesus says, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Sharing the Gospel means proclaiming the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ and inviting others to receive Him as their Savior. It means living our lives in a way that reflects the love and grace of Christ and pointing others to Him.

One way we can share the Gospel is by telling others about our own experiences with Christ. When we share our own stories of faith and salvation, we help others to see the reality of God’s love and grace.

We can also share the Gospel through our actions, by living in a way that reflects the values and principles of the Bible.

Another way we can share the Gospel is by participating in evangelistic activities, such as street preaching or outreach events.

These activities provide opportunities to share the message of the Gospel with people who may not have heard it before. We can also support missionary work and other evangelistic efforts by providing financial or prayer support.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the top 5 priorities in Christian life are to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind; love our neighbor as ourselves; obey God’s Word; seek first the kingdom of God; and share the Gospel with others. By putting these priorities into practice, we honor God and fulfill our purpose as His children.

As we strive to live our lives in a way that honors God, let us remember that we do not do so alone. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live the kind of lives that God desires for us, and He is always with us to guide and strengthen us.

Let us also remember that our efforts to live for Christ and to share the Gospel are not in vain. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

May we always seek to put God first in our lives, to love and serve others, to obey His Word, to advance His kingdom, and to share the message of the Gospel with those around us. May we be faithful in all that we do, and may our lives be a testimony to the love and grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
