In-Ear Monitor System for Church Worship – Which Is the Best?

Tags:

For a long time, musicians have used floor microphones to hear their voices when performing on stage. This is also true for worship groups. The latest technology in music was 40 years ago when I started to play. It was mounted on a mic stand and brought the monitor closer to the musician.

The world is changing, and technology has made it possible to accomplish the same task. Worship teams today use in-ear monitors for church sanctuaries.

In-ear monitors (IEMS) that were available in the early days were expensive, making them prohibitively costly for many churches. Technology has advanced, and you can now provide an in-ear monitor system to your church without spending a fortune or making it difficult for the poor.

Here are some ideas I thought I’d share with you when you’re looking for an in-ear monitoring system for church worship. Easy Church Tech is simple and efficient. I prefer to spend my time doing the work God calls me to and not wasting time looking for equipment.

How do you choose the right in-ear monitor system? Let’s look at the many benefits of in-ear monitoring and the various options for your sound system.

The Benefits of an In-Ear Monitor System for Church Worship

#1. Lower the Volume on The Stage

In-ear monitors can be used to lower the volume from the worship area. This not only helps the sound from the stage but also helps the mix in the sanctuary. They are not competing with each other, and there is only one source of the sound. This is particularly useful in small churches, where the music does not overwhelm the space.

#2. You Have A Cleaner And Safer Stage

The stage space in smaller churches and medium-sized churches is very limited. I can’t count how many times I have nearly tripped over cables and monitors on the platform.

Depending on your team’s musicians or singers, getting rid of big speakers with wedge-shaped shapes can greatly benefit you. You can eliminate any cables running across the platform if you go wireless (which I highly recommend).

#3. No More Squealing Feedback

We all have experienced the unpleasant feeling of hearing PA system feedback. The microphones picking up the floor monitoring system are usually the culprit. This problem can be eliminated with in-ear monitors. This alone is a gift of heaven!

#4. You Will Spend Less Time On Sound Checks

As a musician or a pastor, I can’t count how many times I’ve listened to the sound engineer go through and get the monitor levels just as the worship team is getting set up. An in-ear system can eliminate most of this time. Every musician and singer can adjust the volume and sometimes the mix of their monitor feed.

There are many options for setting up your in-ear system

Optional Wired Products

If you prefer a wired solution, there are two choices. This route is not recommended as you may need to revisit the issue in a few years due to technological advancements.

These options are available for your consideration, but I would be remiss if this were not mentioned.

First, the easiest option. The first option is the easiest. You replace your floor monitors with a monitor amplifier and an in-ear personal monitor pack. Although this method is useful, it won’t save you as much as you might think.

The pack and the earbuds will run you for more than $100.00 each. It is cheaper than a floor monitor but not as much as a wireless system.

Another option is to place a complete monitor mix console on stage. Each musician can then mix their own monitors. This is more costly and requires a sound technician to set up. Your musicians will still be wired to your system. They are not as mobile. Bands often use this method while on tour.

Wireless options

Wireless in-ear monitors are the best for allowing your worship team and singers to move freely. They are no longer attached to wires. They could all sing together in the congregation, and their monitors would be heard.

These systems can be expensive, some will argue. There are some affordable options that you can choose from. A wireless system has one drawback: you’ll need to have a new supply of batteries.

Name-brand equipment is my preferred choice if you’re like me. Their track record has been excellent over the years. Shure has been a brand I trust, and that’s why it is the first wireless option that I recommend.

In Ear Monitoring System

The Shure PSM300 Wireless Stereo Personal Monitor System includes the receiver, transmitter, and earbuds. This system has a range up to 300 feet and can be used as a complete monitor system.

Shure products were the best I’ve ever used.

Sennheiser has another brand I trust. Although they are a bit more expensive than Shure’s, the audio quality is still excellent.

2 In Ear Monitor Receivers

The system includes two receivers, so it’s cheaper than the Shure option if you want to provide in-ear monitoring for your worship team.

The transmitter and two sets of in-ear monitors for the earbuds are also included.

Sennheiser products will make your worship team feel more loved than any pastor. It’s the best.

It would be remiss of me not to bring your attention to a cheaper option with excellent reviews. Here’s a wireless option for in-ear headphones for church worship.

XTUGA Rocket Audio Whole Metal Wireless In Ear Monitor System

Best Budget In Ear Monitor System

Four receivers are included in the Rocket Audio RW2080In Ear Monitor System at an affordable price. This system is worth considering based on the reviews. The package includes one transmitter, four receivers, and four in-ear monitoring buds.

One complaint was the lack of bass range in the in-ear headphones. But that’s normal for monitors.

Find the Best of Both Worlds for Your Church Monitor System

Wireless may not be the best option for all your musicians. A combination of wireless and wired in-ear monitoring devices could be used.

Your drummer, for example, will not run all over the stage. Neither is your keyboardist going to be running around on his digital piano. They may be fine with a wired system.

These products allow you to do both and get the best of both worlds. You can set up preset mixes for each channel, especially using a digital mixer.

So there you have it. This article should have helped you make a decision about what’s best for your church to embrace the 21st century.
