Put Your Faith Over Fear – 5 Steps To Freedom

“I believe that the most important thing in life is faith and love, and I’m not sure which is more important. They both seem to be crucial for human beings.” – Elie Wiesel

Our society has become so focused on fear of what might happen that we forget about the faith it takes to make our days a little brighter. In this blog post, we will talk about how you can put your faith over fear by following these five steps:

  1. Be confident that you have eternal life.
  2. Know that Jesus will never leave you or forsake you.
  3. Give God your anxieties through prayer.
  4. Understand God’s, perfect love.
  5. Feed your faith and not your fear.

We all know that we should be putting our faith in God, but fear holds us back.

Fear can hold us back from doing everything from starting a business to getting the job of our dreams. You are afraid of failure or being rejected by others, so you don’t even try! Especially in the world we live in today where everyone is afraid of getting sick and dying.

This article on putting your faith over fear will help you overcome these fears and take action in your life for success!

How To Put Your Faith Over Fear

Step #1 – Be Confident You Have Eternal Life

John 3:16

New King James Version

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

The way to know that you have eternal life is to place your faith in Jesus Christ. You believe in Him for your eternal destiny. Death is no longer an end with a scary future, but a transition into a much better life.

When you are secure in your eternal destiny, death is no longer scary. You do not have to be afraid of it. The Apostle Paul said that to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:6-8

New King James Version

6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

He also goes on to say that death is swallowed up in victory.

1 Corinthians 15:54-55

New King James Version

54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

Right now we have a mass panic going on because people are afraid of death. When you release that fear and realize that death is not an end but instead is a transition to victory, then you do not fear getting sick and dying.

God already knows your appointed hour. It is in His hands and not ours.

Step #2 – Know That Jesus Will Never leave you nor forsake you.

Hebrews 13:5

New King James Version

5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

One of the most precious promises we have as believers in Christ is that we will never be left alone. We do not have to worry about being forsaken.

Just 3 verses later in verse 8 it says…

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The same Jesus that raised the dead, healed the sick, walked on water, and fed the 5000 is the same Jesus that is walking with you today. He has not changed. So when you are faced with a situation that causes you to feel anxious or afraid, invite Him into the situation and calm the wind and the waves causing you to fear.

Mark 4:39-41

New King James Version

39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

Step #3 – Give God Your Anxieties Through Prayer

Philippians 4:6-7

New King James Version

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Make a list of the things that are causing you to fear. Whether it is fear of death, fear of failure, fear in relationships, or even fear of going to the dentist. Whatever it is you are afraid of, write it down.

Then one by one start to take these fears and talk to Jesus about them. Confess that you are afraid and that you need His help. Picture yourself taking that issue and placing it into His hands for Him to worry about rather than you.

Give Him the responsibility and control of the outcome. The reason you are struggling with fear is that you want to control the outcome. Give the outcome to Him.

Step #4 – Understand God’s, Perfect Love.

I like how the New Living Translation puts this next verse…

1 John 4:17-18

New Living Translation

17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

Many times we fear because we know we have done something wrong and so we fear that God will punish us. That only shows that we really do not understand God’s, perfect love.

Jesus already paid the price for our punishment. We must put our faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. Take a moment to fully understand what that means. You do not have to fear that you will be reprimanded because you screwed up! God is not out to get you.

When you understand that, then when things get scary or seem like they are out of control, you do not have to worry that somehow God is angry with you. Instead, you can believe that He will walk through it with you and that He will even intervene in the situation you are facing.

Step #5 – Feed Your Faith And Not Your Fear

Colossians 2:7

New Living Translation

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

You have heard the old saying, “garbage in, garbage out.” Well, the opposite is true as well. Faith in, faith out!

Take an inventory of what you are feeding your soul. What is going into your mind, emotions, and will? Is it feeding your faith or is it feeding your fear? What are you listening to?

For many of us, that means to stop listening to those that want to profit off of our fear. Whether it is the corporate news media, pharmaceutical companies, manipulative people in our lives, or people who make money or gain influence because you are afraid and looking to them for answers.

Your answer is found in your faith in God.

1 John 5:4

New King James Version

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

In Conclusion
