What Does it Mean to be Delivered by God?

Introduction

In the Bible, the term “delivered” is often used to describe the way in which God rescues and saves His people from difficult and dangerous situations. The concept of deliverance is a central theme in the Bible, and it is an important aspect of the Christian faith.

In this blog post, we will explore what it means to be delivered by God, drawing from the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible.

deliverance in the Bible

Deliverance from Physical Danger

One of the most common examples of deliverance in the Bible is when God rescues His people from physical danger. For example, God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 3:7-10) and delivered Daniel from the lion’s den (Daniel 6:16-23).

God also delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego from the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:17-27). In each of these examples, God intervened in the lives of His people to save them from harm and danger.

Deliverance from Spiritual Danger

Another aspect of deliverance is when God rescues His people from spiritual danger. For example, God delivered the Israelites from the idolatry and false gods of Egypt (Exodus 20:1-3) and delivered Peter after the temptation to deny Jesus (Matthew 26:69-75).

In these examples, God intervened in the lives of His people to save them from the dangers of sin and false beliefs.

Deliverance from the Power of Sin

A crucial aspect of deliverance is when God rescues us from the power of sin. The Bible teaches that we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

However, God sent His only son Jesus to die for our sins and rise again (John 3:16, Romans 5:8). Through faith in Jesus, we can have our sins forgiven and be delivered from the power of sin. As Paul wrote, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Deliverance from the Fear of Death

Another important aspect of deliverance is when God rescues us from the fear of death. The Bible teaches that death is not the end but that all those who have faith in Jesus will rise again.

Jesus himself said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live” (John 11:25). This promise gives us hope and deliverance from the fear of death.

Deliverance from Satan and his Demons

Another important aspect of deliverance is when God rescues us from the influence and power of Satan and his demons. Satan is described in the Bible as the “father of lies” (John 8:44) and the “accuser of the brothers” (Revelation 12:10).

He and his demons seek to deceive and harm people by tempting them to sin and leading them away from God.

However, through faith in Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be delivered from Satan’s influence and power. As Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Ways To Be Delivered By God

One of the key ways that God delivers us from Satan and his demons is through the power of the name of Jesus.

In the Bible, it is written that “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11).

Through faith in Jesus and invoking His name, we can be delivered from the power of Satan and his demons.

Another way God delivers us is through the power of the Holy Spirit. When we accept Jesus as our savior, we receive the Holy Spirit, which indwells in us and gives us power over the enemy.

As it is written in the Bible, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Conclusion

The Bible is filled with examples of God delivering His people from various forms of danger and distress. Whether it be physical danger, spiritual danger, the power of sin, the fear of death, or the influence of Satan and his demons, God is always ready and willing to rescue and save those who turn to Him in faith.

As the psalmist wrote, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” (Psalm 18:2). Trusting in God’s promise of deliverance will give us peace and hope in every situation.

In conclusion, being delivered by God means being rescued, saved, and protected by God from all forms of danger, distress, and harm. It means to be set free from the power of sin, fear of death, Satan, and his demons, and to have eternal life through faith in Jesus.

God is our deliverer, and He is always ready to help us when we call on Him in faith.
