Bible Verses About Pride

What Is Pride? Can We Have Too Much Or Too Little Pride? How Does Pride Affect You And Those Around You?

Pride is held to be your “self-worth,” at least to a certain extent. When you become overly prideful, you will find yourself becoming arrogant and conceited. You have to be careful of how you accept praise in your work, yourself; your beliefs; and who it is you actually want to become. If you find yourself giving an excessive amount of credit for something you accomplished quite well, you may become a little overbearing about “how special” it is.

Pride is one of the seven deadly sins, which include within it: dignity, superiority, and arrogance; these are three types of pride you must be very careful of. How prideful you are over something you accomplished? Don’t be boastful and arrogant; humble yourself, yet be proud of what you have done. Below are Bible verses that tell about pride and how it can be a treacherous weapon against you if you fall into situations where your “pride” comes before everything else.

17 Bible Verses About Pride

By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom.

Proverbs 13:10

Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;  Through they join forces, none will go unpunished.

Proverbs 16:5

Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Proverbs 16:18-19

Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility. He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to him.

Proverbs 18:12-13

A haughty look, a proud heart, And the plowing of the wicked are sin.

Proverbs 21:4

A proud and haughty man – “Scoffer” is his name; He acts with arrogant pride.

Proverbs 21:24

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Proverbs 26:12

Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.

Proverbs 27:2

The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, And the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the Lord of Hosts Shall come upon everything proud and lofty, Upon everything lifted up – And it shall be brought low – Upon all the cedars of Lebanon that are high and lifted up, And upon all the oaks of Bashan; Up on all the  high mountains, And upon all the hills that are lifted up; Upon every high tower, And upon every fortified wall; Upon all the ships of Tarshish, And upon all the beautiful sloops. The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low; The Lord alone will be exalted in that day.

Isaiah 2:11-17

The Lord  Almighty planned it, to bring down her pride in all her splendor and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.

Isaiah 23:9

Daniel answered the king, “Keep your gifts or give them to someone else, but I will tell you what the writing means. Your Majesty, the Most High God gave sovereignty, majesty, glory, and honor to your predecessor, Nebuchadnezzar. He made him so great that people of all races and nations and languages trembled before him in fear. He killed those he wanted to kill and spared those he wanted to spare. He honored those he wanted to honor and disgraced those he wanted to disgrace. But when his heart and mind were puffed up with arrogance, he was brought down from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. He was driven from human society. He was given the mind of a wild animal, and he lived among the wild donkeys. He ate grass like cow, and he was drenched with the dew of the heaven, until he learned that the Most High God rules over the kingdoms of the world and appoints anyone he desires to rule over them.

Daniel 5:17-21

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.  Because of the privilege and authority God has given me I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in you evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.

Romans 12:2-3

Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be to proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!

Romans 12:16

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else, for we are each responsible for our own conduct.

Galatians 6:4

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:3-11

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shinning like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.

Philippians 2:14

And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

James 4:6-10

Conclusion

Always keep your mind and heart turned toward God. He is the only way to happiness, peace, and comfort during your earthly struggles. Satan is always on the prowl for new members of his band of evildoers; you must be aware of his attacks every minute. Remember that God is the answer to everything, and Jesus Christ is the way to get those answers. Just ask for forgiveness and allow Him to come into your heart. He is always with you, both in hard times and those of rejoicing. Remember, Jesus left the Holy Spirit with all believers when he ascended to heaven. His followers carry the Holy Spirit with them to help them learn and become better Christians. Use the Holy Spirit who lives within your heart to help you understand God’s teachings and what He expects of the humans He created.
