Examples of Peace in the Bible: Finding Comfort in God’s Word

Introduction

In a world filled with chaos and turmoil, peace can often seem like a distant dream. Wars, natural disasters, and personal struggles can leave us feeling overwhelmed and hopeless. But as Christians, we have access to a source of peace that the world cannot provide – God’s Word.

The Bible is filled with examples of peace and promises of comfort and restoration for those who seek it. Through the experiences of biblical characters and the teachings of Jesus and the apostles, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness and the peace that comes from trusting in Him.

In this blog post, we will explore examples of peace in the Bible and how we can apply them to our lives. Whether it is through God’s presence, faith in Jesus, prayer, unity, or the Holy Spirit, we will see how the common thread is our reliance on God and His promises.

So, let us turn to God’s Word and find comfort in His promises of peace.

Examples of People Who Experienced Peace in the Bible

  1. Joseph: Despite being sold into slavery by his own brothers, Joseph found peace in God’s plan for his life. In Genesis 50:20, he said, “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive” (NKJV). Joseph trusted in God’s sovereignty and was able to forgive his brothers, which brought him peace.
  2. Job: Job went through incredible trials and suffering, but in the midst of it all, he found peace in God’s presence. In Job 42:5, he said, “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes” (NKJV). Job realized that God was with him even in his suffering and found peace in His presence.
  3. Daniel: When faced with the prospect of being thrown into a den of lions, Daniel remained steadfast in his faith and found peace in God’s protection. In Daniel 6:23, it says, “Now the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in his God” (NKJV). Daniel trusted in God’s power and found peace in His protection.
  4. Jesus: Jesus is the ultimate example of finding peace in God’s plan. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42 NKJV). Jesus knew that the cross was necessary for the salvation of humanity, and He found peace in God’s plan even in the face of intense suffering.

Peace through God’s Presence

In the book of Exodus, Moses had a unique relationship with God. God would speak to Moses “face to face, as a man speaks to his friend” (Exodus 33:11 NKJV). It was in these intimate moments that Moses found peace.

When the Israelites were in the wilderness, God promised Moses, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” (Exodus 33:14 NKJV). Moses knew that the only way to find true rest and peace was through the presence of God.

Similarly, in Psalm 23, David wrote, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul” (Psalm 23:1-3 NKJV). David found peace and restoration in the presence of God.

Peace through Faith

In the New Testament, Jesus often spoke of peace. In John 14:27, He said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (NKJV). Jesus promised His disciples a peace that the world could not give.

This peace comes through faith in Him. In Romans 5:1, Paul wrote, “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (NKJV). When we trust in Jesus and His sacrifice for our sins, we can have peace with God.

Peace through Prayer

In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul wrote, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (NKJV).

Paul encourages us to pray about everything and trust that God will give us peace.

Similarly, in Colossians 3:15, Paul wrote, “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful” (NKJV). When we allow the peace of God to rule in our hearts, we can experience a peace that transcends all understanding.

Peace through Unity

In Ephesians 2:14-15, Paul wrote,

“For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace” (NKJV).

Through His death on the cross, Jesus broke down the barriers that separate us and created unity.

Similarly, in Colossians 3:14, Paul wrote, “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection” (NKJV). When we love one another and strive for unity, we can experience a peace that comes from God.

Peace through the Holy Spirit

In Galatians 5:22-23, Paul wrote, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law” (NKJV). The Holy Spirit produces peace as a fruit in our lives when we walk in step with Him.

Jesus promised His disciples the Holy Spirit as a comforter and helper in John 14:26, saying, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (NKJV).

When we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us and produce His fruit in our lives, we can experience a deep and lasting peace.

Conclusion

The Bible is filled with examples of peace, and it is clear that true peace can only come from God. Whether we find peace through His presence, faith in Jesus, prayer, unity, or the Holy Spirit, the common thread is our reliance on God and His promises.

In Isaiah 26:3, it says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (NKJV). When we keep our minds focused on God and trust in Him, we can experience a peace that surpasses all understanding.

So, when life feels overwhelming and chaotic, let us turn to God’s Word and find comfort in His promises of peace. Let us trust in Him and allow Him to guide us to a place of rest and tranquility in His loving arms.
