El Roi: The God Who Sees Me

El Roi, the God who sees me, is a name of God that appears in the Bible. This name is mentioned in Genesis 16:13 when Hagar, a maidservant of Sarai, was running away from her mistress. The angel of the Lord found her and asked her where she was going.

Hagar replied that she was running away from Sarai.

The angel of the Lord then told her to return to her mistress and submit to her, and promised her that her descendants would be too numerous to count. Hagar then called the Lord who spoke to her, “You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees” (El Roi in Hebrew), because she said, “I have also here seen Him who sees me.”

The name El Roi is a powerful reminder that God sees us, even in our most difficult circumstances. It is a name that brings comfort and hope to those who are struggling and feeling alone. When we feel like no one else understands us or cares about us, we can trust that God sees us and is with us.

This name also reminds us that we can trust God even when we don’t understand what is happening in our lives. We can have faith that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28) and that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

The God Who Sees Me in Scripture

Genesis 16: A Promise to Hagar

In Genesis 16, we read about Hagar, the servant of Sarai (later Sarah), who was given to Abram (later Abraham) as a wife so that he might have children. However, when Sarai was unable to conceive, she became jealous of Hagar and mistreated her.

Hagar fled into the wilderness, where the Angel of the Lord appeared to her and promised that her descendants would be too numerous to count. Hagar then called the Lord who spoke to her “El Roi,” which means “the God who sees me.”

This encounter with God was a powerful moment for Hagar, who was likely feeling alone and abandoned. It reminds us that even when we feel forgotten or overlooked, God sees us and cares for us. This promise to Hagar was fulfilled when she gave birth to Ishmael, who became the father of twelve princes.

The Names of God: El Roi and Jehovah Jireh

The name “El Roi” is just one of many names of God found in Scripture. Each name reveals something about God’s character and nature. “El” is a Hebrew word that means “God,” and “Roi” means “seeing” or “looking.” Together, they form the name “El Roi,” which emphasizes God’s ability to see and care for His people.

Another name of God that is often associated with El Roi is “Jehovah Jireh,” which means “the Lord will provide.” This name was given to God by Abraham after God provided a ram for sacrifice in place of Isaac. It reminds us that God is our provider and will always meet our needs.

As we study the names of God in Scripture, we come to know Him more deeply and trust Him more fully. He is not just a distant deity, but a loving Father who cares for His children.

In conclusion, the story of Hagar and the name “El Roi” remind us that God sees us, even in our darkest moments. We can trust Him to provide for us and fulfill His promises, just as He did for Hagar and Abraham. Let us have faith and trust in the God who sees us and cares for us, now and forevermore.

The Significance of Being Seen by God

The Goodness of God Who Sees Me

In Genesis 16:13, Hagar, the mistress of Abram, exclaimed, “You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, ‘Have I also here seen Him who sees me?'” Hagar was a marginalized woman who had suffered abuse and mistreatment.

However, in her pain and despair, she encountered the God who sees her. This encounter changed her life and gave her the confidence to face her future.

God’s goodness is demonstrated in the fact that He sees us, even in our darkest moments. He sees us when we are mistreated and marginalized by society. He sees us when we are like the sparrows that fall to the ground unnoticed.

He sees us when we are suffering and in need of help. He sees us when we are outcasts and rejected by others. In short, He sees us as individuals who are fearfully and wonderfully made.

The Power of Being Seen by God

Being seen by God has a powerful impact on our lives. It gives us confidence and assurance that we are not alone in our struggles. It reminds us that we are loved and valued by our Creator. It helps us to trust in God’s provision and care, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

In Luke 12:7, Jesus said, “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

This verse shows us that God cares about every detail of our lives, even the number of hairs on our heads. When we realize that God sees us and values us in this way, we can have confidence in His love and care for us.

The Attribute of God Who Sees Me

The attribute of God who sees me is one of grace and mercy. It is a reminder that God is not distant or aloof, but rather, He is intimately involved in our lives. He sees our pain and our struggles, and He is always ready to extend His grace and mercy to us.

In Genesis 16:13, Hagar encountered the God who sees her at a spring in the wilderness. This encounter was a reminder that God is always with us, even in the most desolate places. It was a reminder that God is our Jehovah Jireh, our provider, who meets our needs in unexpected ways.

In conclusion, being seen by God is a powerful reminder of His goodness, power, and grace. It is a reminder that we are not alone in our struggles, and that God is always with us, even in the most difficult circumstances.

So, let us take comfort in the fact that God sees us, and let us trust in His provision and care for our lives.

The God Who Sees Me in the Wilderness

The God Who Sees Me in the Present

In the wilderness, it can be easy to feel lost, alone, and forgotten. But the God who sees me, El-Roi, is always present. Just as Hagar declared in Genesis 16:13, “You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees,” we too can take comfort in knowing that God sees us in our present circumstances.

No matter how difficult or overwhelming they may seem, God is with us and is aware of everything we are facing.

The God Who Sees Me in Circumstances

Not only does God see us in the present, but He also sees us in our circumstances. Whether we are facing illness, financial struggles, or relationship issues, God is aware of our situation and is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

We can trust that even in the midst of our struggles, God is with us and is providing for our needs.

The God Who Sees Me in the Future

As we journey through the wilderness, it can be difficult to see what lies ahead. But the God who sees me is also the God who knows the future. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives, and we can trust that His plans are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

Even when we cannot see the road ahead, we can trust that God is leading us and guiding us every step of the way.

In the wilderness, we may feel vulnerable, invisible, and alone. But the God who sees me is powerful and able to do great things. In Genesis 16:10, God promised Hagar that He would multiply her descendants, even though she was a slave and a foreigner.

God sees us, even when others do not, and He has the power to do great things in our lives.

Throughout the Bible, we see God reaching out to the unseen, the blind, the demon-possessed, and the outcasts. He met the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4), healed the blind men (Matthew 9:27-31), and ate with tax collectors and sinners (Matthew 9:10-11).

No matter who we are or what we have done, God sees us and loves us.

In hindsight, we can see how God has been with us every step of the way. We may have faced storms and challenges, but God was always there, guiding us and providing for us.

Just as the high priests, Pharisees, and Sadducees could not see the truth of who Jesus was, we too may struggle to see God’s hand in our lives. But we can trust that He is always with us, even when we cannot see Him.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the God who sees me, El-Roi, is always present and aware of our circumstances. He sees us in the present, in our circumstances, and in the future.

We can trust that He is leading us and guiding us every step of the way, even when the road ahead is uncertain. No matter who we are or what we have done, God sees us and loves us.
