Demon Names In The Bible – Is There A List?
Do Demons Have Names?
When I was going to Bible College, there was a big fad going on in the church concerning demon names and demonology. It was spurred on by the book called “pigs in the parlor”.
I had doubts about the book then and still do although even today some swear by it. I am just the kind of guy that is really reluctant to go farther than what is clearly and specifically spelled out in the Bible and that goes for worrying about demon names.
In this fad that the church went through, and some still follow, you had people naming demons of every sort.

You had demons of disease, demons of lust, demons of famine, demons of religion, blah blah blah blah unto ad infinitum.
Really?
I mean did everyone check their brains, let alone their biblical study out the door?

Legion: The Only Demon Named In the Bible
There is only one instance where Jesus asked a demon its name.
It is the story of the Gadarene Demoniac.
This is the guy who was possessed by 1000 demons. The demon said its name was legion. Do you know what legion means? A thousand!
Go figure!
It was not the demon’s personal name, but its description.
Why Ask The Question About Demon Names?
So I have to ask the question.
Why in the world are we asking for demon names, naming demons over every malady that is known to man?
I mean think about it?
What does the Bible say concerning where lust comes from?
Or disease?
Now there is some biblical evidence that certain illnesses are caused by demonic oppression, but it does not mean the demon’s name is arthritis, or cancer, or such and such.
Have we become such a blame-orientated society that we blame the Devil for everything?
I think in all honesty that gives the devil way too much glory!
Are we all going to be followers of Flip Wilson who coined the phrase “The Devil made me do it!”?
I hope not.
Are There Demons Of Lust, Pride, Adultery, Gambling and Other Sins?
Lust, sin, and other spiritual afflictions of this type are clearly shown in the scriptures that come from our flesh, not the devil.
Galatians 5:19
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.
Care to argue with God?
It does not say the names of demons are sexual immorality or a devil of idolatry or a demon of witchcraft.
When you do that, you do 2 things.
You remove the blame for the actions from the true source, and you give the devil glory where he deserves no glory.
There Is Only 1 Demon That Has a Name In the Bible.
So, what does the Bible teach about demon names?
There is only one demon that has a name revealed in the Bible.
It is the name of the head demon. Satan, aka the devil, is just a fallen angel that leads other fallen angels.
He does not have the same attributes or powers as God.
The Names of Satan
The Bible calls him by various names. Beelzebub, Lucifer, Father of Lies, Abbadon, the Accuser, The adversary, Apollyon, Belial, the dragon, the enemy, god of this world, the serpent, prince of the power of the air, the tempter, and the wicked one.
But do you know what I call him?
LOSER!

And so what are we doing worrying about demon names, or what a loser is up to.
Don’t you think you should spend more time working on getting on the winning side and learning how to work with God?
The only thing that God wants is the kingdom of darkness repelled and the kingdom of God established.
Cast them out if you encounter a demon, don’t have a chat with them!
Now that is something to think about!
