This is a difficult task, as it all depends on your objectives for your church website. You can create a “one-page stamp website” that lists your name, service times, and location for free. This isn’t the best way to make the most of the opportunity a church website offers.

You can get something for free if you want to use it to draw people to your church. There are costs associated with being free.

There are reasons not to follow a free church website

  • You are not allowed to use your content. Many website providers, including Squarespace.com and Blogger.com offer free websites. However, they have full control over what is displayed on their website. This means they have the right to delete your entire website or any page that you created if you don’t like the fact that you promote pro-life events on their website platform. You should not take this risk in today’s anti-Christian world, especially in tech.
  • Free website platforms reserve the right to advertise on websites they have built using their platform. Display ads on church websites are, in my opinion, the tackiest thing. It is tacky and often inappropriate. These ads include political and alcohol ads. This is not the right mix for a church site.
  • Not all free websites are suitable for search engine optimization. They have simplified the process to help you rank on the first Google page. Heading tags, image alt attributes, meta descriptions, and other stuff. It makes it difficult for people to locate your church when they search for one in their area.

Low-Cost Options for Small to Medium Size Churches

My guide to building church websites has detailed step-by-step instructions on how to build a church website at a low price. It is worth a look.

You can fully control your content and what is displayed on your church website through a few free web hosting services. They are…

I do not recommend these services as I have never used them. It is important to choose a hosting provider. Hosting providers can have a huge impact on how fast your website loads and how user experience is. A slow site can lead to poor user experience and leads to many people leaving your website.

You might consider them if you have a tight budget and are not a person who believes everything should be free for the church.

Free hosting can help you save between $40.00 and $60.00 each year on the cost of a church website.

The Real Cost of Having a Church Website

Hosting

It will be a bit more expensive to create a website for your church if you want it to work. This cost is much less than the price of an ad on the yellow pages.

I recommend you choose a premium hosting provider such as Siteground or A2 Host. These hosting companies offer great prices and high-quality services. Siteground hosts my church website.

Annual Cost: Less than $60.00

Themes

A program will be needed to dress up your site. This is known as a theme. The WordPress Repository offers many free themes. These are just a few.

But, once again, I recommend you not use a free theme unless necessary. It can be hard to get support or updates. Most free themes have very few options that can make your site unique. You should consider purchasing a premium theme. Premium themes can cost anywhere from $25.00 up to $90.00. These are just a few of the options available to you.

You might consider using premium plugins or hiring someone to set up your site if you’re not technically proficient. But I learned this myself, and I think you can, too.

How much does a website for a church cost? It’s possible to do it for less than $200.00 upfront and only $100 per year after that.

As I mentioned, it costs less than a yellow pages ad many years ago.
