The life of Corrie Ten Boom is one that inspires many people to go out and make a difference in the world. She was an example of someone who faced adversity with strength, courage, and faith. Her story serves as a reminder that even when things get tough or we don’t know what to do next, God will always be there for us. We may not see Him at first but He’s always there waiting for us to turn back around. His love is endless and unconditional; it doesn’t matter how much we mess up or fall down because He’ll never stop loving us no matter what happens.
We can draw inspiration from Corrie Ten Boom’s words today by reading through these quotes where she shares her thoughts about life, death, forgiveness, love, faith, and suffering.
Who Was Corrie Ten Boom?
Corrie Ten Boom was a Dutch Christian writer and speaker best known for her book “The Hiding Place.” She survived the Holocaust because of her sister’s heroic efforts to save her from Nazi Concentration Camps. In 1946, she began telling stories about what had happened during World War II at churches and schools, which led to international acclaim as a speaker. This is where I first discovered Corrie Ten Boom – in my high school history class – but it wasn’t until recently that I learned more about everything she’s done since the war ended. These are some of my favorite quotes by Corrie Ten Boom:

Corrie Ten Boom Quotes On Love
“Do you know what hurts so very much? It’s love. Love is the strongest force in the world, and when it is blocked that means pain. There are two things we can do when this happens. “Mama’s love had always been the kind that acted itself out with soup pot and sewing basket. But now that these things were taken away, the love seemed as whole as before. She sat in her chair at the window and loved us. She loved the people she saw in the street– and beyond: her love took in the city, the land of Holland, the world. And so I learned that love is larger than the walls which shut it in. ”Corrie Ten Boom
“When He tells us to love our enemies He gives, along with the command, the love itself.”Corrie Ten Boom
Corrie Ten Boom Quotes On Forgiveness
“Even as the angry vengeful thoughts boiled through me, I saw the sin of them. Jesus Christ had died for this man; was I going to ask for more? Lord Jesus, I prayed, forgive me and help me to forgive him….Jesus, I cannot forgive him. Give me your forgiveness….And so I discovered that it is not on our forgiveness any more than on our goodness that the world’s healing hinges, but on His. When He tells us to love our enemies, He gives along with the command, the love itself.”Corrie Ten Boom
“Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hatred. It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness.”Corrie Ten Boom

“And for all these people alike, the key to healing turned out to be the same. Each had a hurt he had to forgive.”Corrie Ten Boom
“It was at a church service in Munich that I saw him, a former S.S. man who had stood guard at the shower room door in the processing center at Ravensbruck. He was the first of our actual jailers that I had seen since that time. And suddenly it was all there – the roomful of mocking men, the heaps of clothing, Betsie’s pain-blanched face.
He came up to me as the church was emptying, beaming and bowing. “How grateful I am for your message, Fraulein.” He said. “To think that, as you say, He has washed my sins away!” His hand was thrust out to shake mine. And I, who had preached so often to the people in Bloemendaal the need to forgive, kept my hand at my side.
Even as the angry, vengeful thoughts boiled through me, I saw the sin of them. Jesus Christ had died for this man; was I going to ask for more? Lord Jesus, I prayed, forgive me and help me to forgive him. I tried to smile, I struggles to raise my hand. I could not. I felt nothing, not the slightest spark of warmth or charity. And so again I breathed a silent prayer. Jesus, I prayed, I cannot forgive him. Give me Your forgiveness.
As I took his hand the most incredible thing happened. From my shoulder along my arm and through my hand a current seemed to pass from me to him, while into my heart sprang a love for this stranger that almost overwhelmed me. And so I discovered that it is not on our forgiveness any more than on our goodness that the world’s healing hinges, but on His. When He tells us to love our enemies, He gives, along with the command, the love itself.”Corrie Ten Boom
“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover the prisoner was you.”Corrie Ten Boom
The Ministry Of Corrie Ten Boom
After the war, she returned to the Netherlands and established a rehabilitation center in Bloemendaal. The refuge housed concentration-camp survivors and only accepted unemployed Dutch who had collaborated with the Germans throughout the Occupation until 1950 when it opened its doors to everyone in need of assistance.
She discovered that Kik ten Boom, her brother’s son, had perished in a concentration camp. She returned to Germany in 1946 and met with and forgave two Germans who’d worked at Ravensbrück, one of whom had been particularly cruel to Betsie. Ten Boom went on to speak all over the world as a public speaker, visiting
She mentions in her book that she was once invited to speak at a multi-denominational women’s meeting. It details how she traveled the world, preaching the Gospel in Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia, and even in hard-to-reach and dangerous locations including Russia (then-USSR), Cuba, and China.
It includes photographs of Ten Boom and her powerful messages of forgiveness, hope, love, and salvation through the gift of Jesus Christ.
The Hiding Place tells the story of Anne Frank’s family members and their World War II work, which was adapted into a 1975 World Wide Pictures film The Hiding Place, with Jeannette Clift as Corrie and Julie Harris as Betsie. Corrie migrated to Placentia, California in 1977 at the age of 85.
In 1978, she had two strokes, the first of which left her unable to talk and the second of which rendered her mute. She died on her 91st birthday, 15 April 1983, following a third stroke. Ten Boom was interred in Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, California.
