Perseverance is a critical virtue that is essential for success in life. It’s the ability to keep going despite obstacles, setbacks, and hardships. These individuals drew strength from their faith in God and relied on His promises to see them through. In this list of Bible verses about perseverance, we will explore the powerful words of scripture that encourage us to press on in the face of adversity. Whether you’re facing a challenging season or simply need inspiration to keep going, these verses will remind you that with God’s help, you can endure and overcome any obstacle.

Bible scripture on perseverance

Until you open your heart to Jesus and Father God, you can never feel the joy, peace, and love that are at your fingertips. It is through our Lord that we are so innately taken care of with continual blessings; overwhelming joy; peace like you’ve never known before. Perhaps the following scriptures will aid in learning how to endure to the end by standing firm, not wavering, and persevering until Jesus comes for us.

Bible Verses About Perseverance

Psalms 71:5-6 “For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are He who took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of you.”

NOTE: I often think of how Jesus persevered to the end on the cross. The horrid beatings, the shame of sin when He was complete without sin; this is the most exaggerated type of perseverance possible. Just to think of Him on that cross for 6 hours and what he went through to save us all…” perseverance to the ultimate degree.”

Psalms 86:11 Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

NOTE: When you feel you are being overtaxed and must persevere through the day…remember what Jesus went through for you. Six hours of unadulterated suffering, and still blessed the people responsible. You can experience His kind of love by giving yourself to Him.

Proverbs 4:25-26  Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.       Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure.

NOTE:  You can’t get much clearer than that. God wants us to know if you keep your eyes on Him, you will find everything you are looking for. He will make sure that you are secure in your walk with Him and surround you in His love and glory.

Proverbs 107:9     For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

NOTE: If you haven’t taken God into your heart as of yet, then reread the above scripture; it is God who can satisfy your empty soul; it is God that can give you the food of the Spirit; it is God who renews you every single morning. Keep your feet on the right track for Him; you will be amazed at the blessings you receive.

Isaiah 46:4 …even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.

NOTE: Isaiah was one of the greatest profits recorded in the Bible; his words rang throughout the history of the Bible. He foretold of Jesus’ coming and all that would take place in order to have forgiveness of sins for all people. In this scripture, Isaiah is repeating what God had told him, that if you keep God’s covenants, God will carry you to the end and give you eternal life.

Lamentations 3:22-24 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.

NOTE: It is because of Jesus’ compassion for the human race that it has not been consumed with evil; His love and compassion for you is never-ending, always there when you need Him, and will carry you if needed. When we falter and turn away from our gracious, merciful, loving Lord Jesus we do a great determent to ourselves. If this happens to you, just take a moment and reflect on the joy, peace, and security you had been feeling. Never turn your back on the Father God Almighty or his gracious loving Son Jesus Christ.

Luke 1:37 For no word from God will ever fail.

NOTE: God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit have never lied, edged around the truth, or caused someone to think in a negative way. You will find only good, mercy and love with the Trinity and when God tells you He will do something, know in your heart that it’s already done. He will never fail you, so try with everything in you not to fail Him.

Philippians 1:6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

NOTE:  There is a coming cloud over this world, here God is telling us if we do not doubt Him and persevere until Jesus returns, all things will be made right within us, we will see the Glory of God overtake this earth and envelope God’s followers through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Philippians 3:13-14 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

NOTE: In order to preserve to the end, we all must leave all things of the past, in the past. Give up your need for remembering your life gone by. If it isn’t happening today, there is no reason for you to hold onto it. If you have hardness in your heart about something, repent it and allow God to remove it from you. There is no happiness in holding onto something that doesn’t matter any longer. Give it to God and He will take care of it!

James 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

NOTE: What happens to you when you get angry or do not feel well; we all have a tendency to take it out on others, our anger, or disapproval of what seems to be happening, or the way you interpret them to be; but now is the time to give those things to God and allow Him to handle them according to His plan, according to His will, according to the stage that has been set since time began. Allow Him to take over your burdens and you will go free in peace and joy.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

NOTE: God is telling us that as long as we remain true to Him, love, and fear Him, no matter what trial we are going through we will earn the Crown of Life for our entry into heaven. The only thing God asks for is your love and acceptance of His glorious plan for His prized possessions.

Hebrews 12:1-2  Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus…

NOTE: The only thing that really matters is that you give up your sin-nature, turn to God through Jesus Christ and allow them into your heart. Obey what the Lord asks of you and, as He tells us, run the race to reach heaven with endurance, pride, love, and joy. Turn to our Lord and He will bring you home.
