Biblical Keys In Developing Successful Christian Priorities

Maintaining our Christian priorities and finding balance in life is sometimes a hard thing to find. I have found it quite difficult as a single person.

Most of us, if we will be honest, really do not like being single. There is a huge temptation to get distracted by the goal of changing our single status. This makes us very prone to losing our focus and our priorities in life and becoming distracted from the right things and the things that God has for us in life.

We can head down the path of distraction with ease, either finding someone a high priority or making it work with someone, that we lose our balance in the rest of our lives and the rest of our lives suffer.

These principles I am going to share with you, apply to many situations, not just being single and the temptation to change that status. It can refer to work, family, even church activities.

I have experienced this more than once in many areas.

I tend to get focused on one thing that according to my emotions, feels like a high priority but in reality, causes me to get out of balance and heading down the path of distraction. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever learn my lesson!

3 Essential Elements In Developing Our Christian Priorities

Life has three key elements. The Spiritual, The Emotional, and the Physical.

The Spiritual

The spiritual contains your relationship with God.

If this is out of balance either with ultra fanaticism or lack of concern at all, then it will affect the rest of your life.

You will either be so heavenly-minded you are no earthly good at all, or you will be so self-centered because you have made yourself a god, that you will not be able to form healthy emotional attachments.

The Emotional

Everyone has Emotional needs. God created emotions.

It is one reason why I do not get concerned when people show emotion in church services.

However when we suffer a loss or have a tragedy happen, or if we get used to receiving or wanting negative emotions, we can become an emotional vacuum cleaner. We suck the life out of ourselves and everyone around us.

If you are out of balance in the emotional area, then all you will be looking for is your next “love” fix or expecting someone else to fill the void. Our emotional life has to be one of both giving and receiving.

The Physical

In our supermodel and GQ society, it is easy to be focused on the physical which we all know, over time fades.

It is easy to believe that if you lose a few pounds, get a better fat to muscle ratio, get rid of the grey hair, or have some type of cosmetic surgery that life will be better and that you will feel better about yourself.

Balance Is The Key To Healthy Biblical Priorities

If we get too focused on one area of our life, then we can rest assured we will get distracted.

Balance is the key to a healthy and abundant life.

If you get to make the spiritual too high of a priority, then your emotional needs and physical needs can suffer, and vice versa for the rest.

How do we maintain balance?

Well, I am no expert, but a few things I have learned.

Knowing you are worth being loved is the start of developing biblical priorities

Realistically know yourself and see that you are worth being loved.

When you know your value, which honestly comes from the understanding that God loves you more than you ever can, then you can relax and know that your happiness is not based on your performance. It is based on just being you and how you are uniquely and wonderfully made.

When you understand this, then the need to fill the void with someone or something else is eliminated.

No longer will you be distracted by the temptation to perform or make something happen.

You will find contentment.

Knowing the difference between real gold and fool’s gold is essential in developing Christian priorities

Understand that all that glitters is not gold.

I remember that line from the old Led Zepplin tune “stairway to heaven.” They were wrong. All that glitters will not buy you a stairway to heaven.

What I mean by this, is that there will be many times when something flashy, attractive, glitzy, will come your way, it will look like the real deal, the answer to prayer, the solution to your felt need.

However, it will be fool’s gold, and it will distract you from your balance in life.

The adage that says “if it is too good to be true, it is” applies here.

Remember, if you are maintaining the right priorities and have your life in balance then if what you see is not right in front of you, then you are being distracted from those priorities.

Focusing on what matters keeps you following biblical priorities

Finally keep your focus on what matters; Faith, Family, Friends. And your character.

Those that lead you away from any of those things, are not for you how much they seem to fill a need at the time, no matter how beautiful, successful, or golden-tongued they are, no matter how sick and tired you are of the situation you might be in, or how many promises they make about fixing your situation.

Bible Based Priorities Lead To The Abundant Life

I hope some of the mistakes I have made on my journey and the lessons I have learned helps some of you.

I know that in learning these lessons, it brought me from a broken divorced Christian and former pastor to now being once again in ministry, even as a single and divorced person, and the author of a weekly column in a newspaper and the balding imperfect guy who is talking to you now.

If Jesus can do it for me, then He can do it for you! You too can find success by learning how to live out your Christian priorities and values.

Now that is something to think about!

Blessings to you!
