Finding The Best Bible Study for Married Couples

Introducing the best Bible study for married couples: The Story of Marriage by John and Lisa Bevere:
John and Lisa Bevere have written a Bible study for married couples that I believe to be the best of its kind. I have known of their ministry for years and always find them to offer works that challenge believers to go forward into a deeper relationship with the Lord.

Marriage is God’s framework for how He loves us. Published by Messenger International, the study was first released in 2014. It is available in paperback and ebook. There is also a DVD curriculum package for your group Bible study. It is a part of the Messenger Series Study by John and Lisa Bevere.

In The Story of Marriage, the Beveres start at the beginning, detailing God’s original plan and purpose for marriage. Marriage is His masterpiece! He created it to express a much bigger story: His relentless, loving commitment to bring out the best in us.

Marriage represents the close union of Jesus Christ (the Bridegroom) with the church (His bride). The relationship is to be exclusive and living; ever-growing and deepening as the years go by. Students are encouraged to write their own marriage story. Every story has several chapters, some better than others, some great and some not so great.

Who Is The Story Of Marriage Best Suited For?

The dynamics of marriage have something to teach everyone regardless of where we are in life. Whether married, single, or engaged, your story is ultimately part of the divine story of a marriage.  What a fantastic thing to meditate on!

Even if you want to learn of God’s plan for marriage and its broader spectrum of meaning, this study will undoubtedly fill in the gaps for you. It will enrich your relationship with Jesus as you learn and see more of this representation of His great love for us.

Marriage is God’s idea, and it is only between a man and a woman. Period. No one can ever change the parameters of marriage into any other form such as woman-woman or man-man.

This is addressed briefly in the first chapter because these kinds of aberrations are so prevalent in our culture today. The Story of Marriage is thoughtfully written with beautiful compassion as well as humor.

Chapter titles:

  • Introduction
  • The Original Plan
  • Begin with the End in Mind
  • Clear the Decks
  • Rise Again
  • Intimacy
  • Begin Again
  • Appendix: How to Receive Salvation

The Story of Marriage can be read cover to cover if you wish. Each chapter is divided into five daily readings. Following each reading is a devotional.

You can read one chapter and one devotional per day, or you can design your reading, thinking and praying session as a regular part of your schedule.

The Beveres noticed that most Bible studies on marriage offer only one viewpoint, either from the man or the woman. They saw the need for a study with the perspectives of both husband and wife, hence The Story of Marriage was born. This study gives the eternal purpose of marriage and what it signifies in God’s perfect plan. Each marriage is a part of that plan.
