Noah’s obedience
Noah was another faithful servant of God. In Genesis 6-9, God instructed Noah to build an ark to save his family and animals from the flood that God would send to cleanse the earth of wickedness. Despite the ridicule and disbelief of those around him, Noah obeyed God’s command and built the ark. As a result of his obedience, Noah and his family were saved from the flood.

Moses was called by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt in Exodus 3-14. Despite his initial reluctance, Moses obeyed God’s command and led the Israelites out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, and towards the Promised Land. Moses’ obedience to God’s will allowed him to be used mightily by God to perform miracles and lead the Israelites toward freedom.
Moses’ obedience shows us the importance of being open to God’s calling in our lives. Moses initially tried to resist God’s plan but ultimately chose to obey and was used by God in a powerful way. As Christians, we must be open to God’s calling in our lives and be willing to obey even when it may be difficult.
Joshua’s obedience
Joshua was chosen by God to lead the Israelites after Moses’ death. In Joshua 6, God gave Joshua specific instructions on how to conquer the city of Jericho. Despite the unconventional nature of God’s plan, Joshua obeyed and led the Israelites to victory over Jericho.
Joshua’s obedience shows us the importance of trusting in God’s plan, even when it may seem unusual or difficult. Joshua could have easily dismissed God’s plan for conquering Jericho, but he chose to trust in God’s wisdom and was rewarded for his faithfulness.
Daniel’s obedience
Daniel is a prime example of obedience to God in the midst of adversity. In Daniel 6, Daniel continued to pray to God despite a decree from King Darius that anyone caught praying to any god except the king would be thrown into the lions’ den. Despite the danger, Daniel chose to obey God rather than man and was miraculously saved from the lions’ den.
Daniel’s obedience shows us the importance of choosing to obey God, even when it may result in persecution or suffering. Daniel could have easily chosen to stop praying, but he recognized that his allegiance was to God and not to the king. As Christians, we must be willing to obey God, even if it means facing persecution or suffering.
New Testament examples of obedience
Jesus’ obedience
Jesus is the ultimate example of obedience to God. In Philippians 2:8, it says, “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Jesus willingly obeyed God’s plan for salvation, even though it meant enduring great suffering and ultimately dying on the cross.
Jesus’ obedience shows us what it means to truly submit to God’s will, even when it means facing immense suffering. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross demonstrates God’s love for humanity and the importance of obedience in our relationship with Him.
Mary’s obedience
Mary, the mother of Jesus, demonstrated obedience when she received the news from the angel Gabriel that she would conceive a child through the Holy Spirit. In Luke 1:38, Mary says, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” Mary’s obedience to God’s plan allowed her to play an important role in the birth of Jesus.
