5 Examples of Not Waiting on God in the Bible

Introduction

Waiting on God can be a difficult task, especially when we are faced with trials and tribulations in our lives. As Evangelical Christians, we believe that God’s timing is perfect and that we should trust in His plan and timing.

However, there are times when we may be tempted to take matters into our own hands and not wait on God. In this blog post, we will explore 5 examples from the Bible of people who did not wait on God and the consequences that followed.

Through these examples, we will see how impatience can lead to disastrous outcomes, and how waiting on God can result in blessings beyond measure.

We will see how Abraham and Sarah, Saul, Moses, King David, and Peter all faced situations where they were tempted to take matters into their own hands, but ultimately learned the importance of waiting on God.

Each story provides valuable lessons for us as Christians, reminding us to trust in God’s plan and timing and to be obedient to His commands.

As we explore these stories, we will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to wait on God, and why it is so important in our lives. We will learn from the mistakes of those who did not wait on God and strive to follow the examples of those who trusted in God’s plan and timing.

May this blog post inspire us to be patient and obedient in all that we do, seeking God’s guidance and direction in every aspect of our lives.

waiting on God in the Bible

1. Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 16)

Abraham and Sarah were promised a son by God, but Sarah was unable to conceive. In their impatience, they decided to have a child through Sarah’s maidservant, Hagar.

This decision caused great strife in their family, and Ishmael, the son of Hagar, became a thorn in the side of Isaac, the son that God eventually gave to Abraham and Sarah.

The story of Abraham and Sarah teaches us that we must be patient and trust in God’s timing, even when things seem impossible. We must remember that God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.

We should wait on God to fulfill His promises in His perfect timing and not try to take matters into our own hands.

2. Saul (1 Samuel 13)

Saul was chosen by God to be the first king of Israel, but he became impatient and offered a burnt offering to God, which was a job reserved for the priests. This act of disobedience caused God to reject Saul as king and to choose someone else to take his place.

The story of Saul teaches us that we must be obedient to God’s commands and wait on Him to fulfill His promises. We should not try to take matters into our own hands, but rather trust in God’s plan and timing.

3. Moses (Exodus 2)

Moses was chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. However, he became impatient and killed an Egyptian who was mistreating an Israelite. This act of violence caused Moses to flee Egypt and delayed God’s plan for the Israelites’ deliverance.

The story of Moses teaches us that we must be patient and trust in God’s plan, even when things seem difficult or impossible. We should not take matters into our own hands, but rather trust in God’s guidance and direction.

4. King David (2 Samuel 11)

King David, described as a man after God’s own heart, committed adultery with Bathsheba, the wife of one of his soldiers, and then had her husband killed to cover up his sin. This act of disobedience caused great turmoil in David’s family and caused God to discipline him severely.

The story of King David teaches us that even the most faithful of God’s servants can fall into temptation and sin. We must be vigilant and guard against the temptations of impatience and taking matters into our own hands. We must seek God’s guidance and direction in all that we do and trust in His plan and timing.

5. Peter (Matthew 26)

Peter, one of Jesus’ closest disciples, drew his sword and cut off the ear of one of the soldiers when Jesus was arrested. However, Jesus rebuked Peter and told him to put away his sword, as this was not the way of the kingdom of God.

The story of Peter teaches us that we must be patient and trust in God’s plan, even when things seem difficult or uncertain. We should follow the example of Jesus and respond to difficult situations with love and compassion, rather than with impatience and violence.

Conclusion

As we can see from these examples, not waiting on God can have serious consequences. It can cause us to miss out on God’s blessings and delay His plan for our lives. The stories of Abraham and Sarah, Saul, Moses, King David, and Peter teach us the importance of waiting on God and trusting in His plan and timing.

As Evangelical Christians, we should strive to be patient and obedient in all that we do. We should seek God’s guidance and direction in every aspect of our lives and wait on Him to fulfill His promises in His perfect timing.

We must remember that God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.

Let us learn from the mistakes of those who did not wait on God and strive to follow the examples of those who trusted in God’s plan and timing. May we be vigilant and guard against the temptations of impatience and taking matters into our own hands.

May we seek God’s guidance and direction in all things and trust in His plan and timing. And may we follow the example of Jesus, responding to difficult situations with love and compassion, rather than with impatience and violence.
