5 Amazing Discoveries About Angels in the Bible

The Bible is a vast and deeply fascinating text, filled with countless stories, prophecies, and teachings. Among these many elements, angels often play a significant role. These celestial beings are not only intriguing for their supernatural abilities but also for the messages they bring and the tasks they are entrusted with by God. In this blog post, we will dive into five incredible discoveries about angels in the Bible that you may not have known.

Understanding the presence and importance of angels in the Bible is crucial for our relationship with God because these heavenly messengers serve as reminders of God’s love, protection, and guidance. Let’s explore some key takeaways from our in-depth study of angels in Scripture.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Angels are God’s messengers and protectors.
  2. There are various types of angels in the Bible.
  3. Angels often appear to deliver important messages to God’s people.
  4. Angelic beings possess incredible power and abilities.
  5. Some angels fell from their heavenly positions and became “fallen angels.”

Various Types of Angels in the Bible

Cherubim

One type of angelic being mentioned throughout Scripture is the cherubim. These creatures, often depicted with wings, served as guardians of God’s holiness. In Genesis 3:24, cherubim guarded the entrance to the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve’s expulsion.

Cherubim also had an essential role in the design of the Ark of the Covenant that God instructed Moses to build. According to Exodus 25:18-22, two cherubim of gold were to be crafted on the mercy seat, facing each other with their wings spread covering the Ark’s lid.

Seraphim

Another type of angel in the Bible is the seraphim. These heavenly beings are described in Isaiah 6:1-3, where the prophet Isaiah experiences a vision of God’s throne. The seraphim have six wings, with two covering their faces, two covering their feet, and two for flying. The seraphim continuously praise God, proclaiming, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!” (Isaiah 6:3, NKJV).

Seraphim play a unique role in that they are explicitly linked to worship and praise of God within the heavenly realm. Although mysterious and awe-inspiring, seraphim serve as a reminder of the importance of giving glory to God.

Angelic Appearances and Delivering Messages

Angels are often sent by God to deliver essential messages to His people throughout the Bible. For instance, in the Old Testament, angels communicate God’s message to figures like Abraham, Moses, and Daniel. In the New Testament, it is an angel who announces Jesus’ birth to Mary and Joseph (Luke 1:26-38, Matthew 1:18-24).

Moreover, an angel appeared to the apostle Peter in prison and helped him escape in Acts 12:7-11, while an angelic encounter provided encouragement to the apostle Paul in Acts 27:23-24. These examples serve as reminders that God often sends angels to comfort, guide, and encourage His people at crucial moments.

Powerful and Miraculous Works of Angels

Throughout the Bible, angelic beings are attributed with incredible power and abilities. For example, in 2 Kings 19:35, an angel of the Lord struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night, protecting the city of Jerusalem from an impending attack. The same event is recounted in Isaiah 37:36.

In the New Testament, angels display their miraculous capabilities as well. In Matthew 28:2-4, an angel of the Lord rolled back the stone covering Jesus’ tomb, causing an earthquake and striking fear into the guards on duty. These accounts remind us of the awe-inspiring power and might of God’s angels, who work in service to His divine plan.

Fallen Angels and Spiritual Warfare

While many angels remain faithful to God, some have turned away from Him, becoming “fallen angels.” The most well-known fallen angel is Satan, once an angel of God who rebelled and fell from his divine position (Isaiah 14:12-15, Ezekiel 28:12-19).

The New Testament identifies other fallen angels as well (2 Peter 2:4, Jude 1:6). These angels serve as adversaries, seeking to cause chaos and destruction. This reality of spiritual warfare with fallen angels is a constant theme in the Bible, reminding us to remain vigilant and rely on God’s strength in overcoming evil forces (Ephesians 6:10-18).

Cherishing the Role of Angels in Our Lives

As Christians, it’s essential to remember that angels are not meant to be the focus of our worship or devotion. The Bible is clear that our allegiance and worship are reserved for God alone. Nevertheless, angels are significant in Scripture, serving as reminders of God’s loving presence, provision, and protection.

When we study angels in the Bible, we begin to appreciate the many ways in which God employs these supernatural beings to Watch over His people. From messages of hope to miraculous rescues, angels demonstrate God’s concern and care for humanity. As we continue to explore Scripture and deepen our understanding of the divine, we can rest assured in the knowledge that God has sent His angels to serve, protect, and guide us in our journey towards Him.
