4 Ways You Can Tell If Your Dream Is From God

All of us have dreams. The question is whether or not any of these dreams are the type of dreams that are sent to us by God to communicate with us.

All of us have dreams. The question is whether or not any of these dreams are the type of dreams that are sent to us by God to communicate with us. In the book of Joel it says,

Joel 2:28
“Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.

So what we need to know is if we are receiving what I like to call “God dreams” or if they are the result of eating too much pepperoni pizza with anchovies or the result of just being upset about a situation that is going on in our life. How do you tell if your dream is a dream from God?

Is Your Dream Biblical?

This may seem like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised how many people have asked me about dreams of trading in their current wife for a new model. This dream was not from God.

The Bible warns us about being deceived by different forms or spiritism, sorcery, and the occult including psychics. As much as believers are supposed to receive dreams and visions from God, those dreams and visions have to line up with God’s word the Bible.

So ask yourself the question. Did this dream encourage me to do things that are contrary to the word of God? If it did, then this dream definitely didn’t come from God.

Is Your Dream Revealing?

The reason that God sends dreams is that He is trying to communicate with you and can’t get through to you by normal means. This does not mean you are bad, it just means that you are not listening well enough. It happens to all of us because we are distracted or not even thinking along the lines that God wants us to think.

In the Bible, dreams always revealed something. With the Apostle Paul, a dream revealed that He was to go to Macedonia instead of another direction.

In the case of Jacob’s dream of the stairway to heaven, it revealed an aspect of God that Jacob had never understood before.

So a dream from God reveals something. Now there are times when we can sense that there is a meaning or revelation in the dream that we as of yet do not understand, but a dream from God always reveals something to us.

Does The Dream Stay In Your Memory?

Most dreams fade from our conscious almost immediately. Dreams from God are remembered. They stay vivid.

They also trouble our spirits.

Now I don’t mean trouble as in a bad thing, but I mean that our spirit rumbles with the knowledge that there is something there that is different than usual.

King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream. The prophet Daniel interpreted this dream for this ungodly king. The King made this statement.

Daniel 2:3
he said, “I have had a dream that deeply troubles me, and I must know what it means.”

A dream from God is different from normal dreams. You remember it. It bugs you. It is more vivid than other dreams.

Does It Come To Pass?

If this is the first time that you have had a dream you think might be of God, then you will not be able to benefit as of yet from this way of knowing if your dream is from God because it is, however, to be seen if the dream comes to pass.

However, if you are more familiar with dreams from God, then think about the other dreams you have had that have come to pass. What similarities does this dream have with others that you have been given by God?

You see, the final proof, if a dream is from God, is the results. Did it come to pass?

There are two vivid accounts of this at work in Acts chapter 9 and 10. One is with a man named Ananias who God told to pray for Saul of Tarsus for healing, and the other was with Peter being told to go and preach to the gentiles.

If you follow these four simple steps, you will be able to determine if your dream is from God. If it is, God is more than ready to help you understand what your dream means.

  4. I know i always have a dream of different things, some weird, some crazy off the wall stuff. But lately these dreams has been about family and friends. I had a dream that i was with my grandmother during her time of sickness, but in the dream she reach out to me, [like she was trying to tell me something before she died]. Personally, none of that has happen or I was never with her when she died because at the time we had a family disputed [with me and my mom’s sister]. I don’t believe in psychic, I don’t believe in the after life on earth. Even though, I never got anything of my grandmother’s nor receive my inheritances until my Aunt passed away a few months ago. My Cousin gave me my grandmother’s purse. Nothing true value or nothing personal. But i am not understanding why I have this dream, it was almost like it was real. Can you help me understand this.

  6. In fall of 2019, I had a dream where I was in a large city that I didn’t recognize, and the sidewalks were crowded with people who were celebrating something, smiling, laughing, and I could hear cheering coming from the right. The road was completely empty, and I went through the crowd to get a closer look. Someone was riding down the empty road on a huge white horse. He came closer, and once the man on the horse came near to where I was, he stopped. I then saw that it was Jesus! He looked right at me, smiled, and reached out towards me. Immediately, I ran to him, and I hugged him. Jesus wrapped his arms around me, and we held each other very close, and then the best part happened: Jesus spoke to me! He said, “You are saved”. Oh, it was seriously the best dream I’ve ever had in my now 23 year long life. Reading this article, I’m almost certain that this was indeed from God. I could still feel the feeling I got from the dream just from writing this. The best way I could describe it is that it’s just like hugging a lightning bolt that is made of the purest and most intense love anyone could have for you. I feel this dream can help me overcome my constant fear of, “ What if I die, hoping to be saved, but only to be thrown into hell because I went wrong somehow in this life?” . If this is in fact Jesus who really said this and did this to me, then I would want to believe it, because I know Jesus does not deceive. Jesus takes salvation and the condition of our souls very seriously. Jesus doesn’t mess around.

    1. Amazing experience that was! I can only imagine how exhilarating it felt. I had a somewhat similar experience sometime in May. I saw Jesus on the cross, I cried intensely and shed tons of tears. Interestingly, I woke up crying and shedding real tears in the physical. I wasn’t agitated; it was a sense of peace, calmness, and gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice for me! Glory to God.

  7. I woke up suddenly!
Please help me,i have searching for a long time and i found this website because sometimes what i dream of happens.

  8. Where can I go to get help with my dream? I had it when I was a young man and now I am 65 and going to retire. The dream is still so vivid in my mind today. I don’t want to die with unfinished business and would like to solve this dream.

  9. I had a dream that my pastor came over to my house, he looked at me and asked if I was ok, I said yes, instantly I felt a strange feeling then he approached me and rest his hand on me and started praying. I fell down and when I looked up there were other pastors whom I knew praying over me as well, It lasted for awhile. I would really like to know the meaning of this dream.

  10. I had a dream that I woke-up after dieing in hell. I started yelling for Jesus! And I could see around me almost like cartoon devils and other bad minions around me. I felt it was not good.

Then after that I was in a large house and the earth was flooding. And all the animals were trying to break into the house. I big black wolf got in and was trying to attack me. He scratched and bit at me drawing blood I could see. I then new I hand to protect me and my 2 cats. I started punching him and then grabbed him and body slammed him to the ground and threw him outside the house. He was still circling the house looking at me.

I’m a Christian born again believer and recently have been think about those who passed without being saved and wonderful about those who could die and are not saved …

  11. I do believe in God but I’ve never been baptized or saved. I’ve always been terrified of religion. The older I get the worse the fear is. I thought I’d share two dreams that I have. I feel like it’s a battle between good and evil.

As a child I always had the same dream. I was at church with my mother and I’m sitting and listening to the preacher. I feel a rumble beneath my feet and the whole church starts to shake. Everyone is running around and the floor cracks open and this massive being(I assumed the devil) rises up. I can’t find my mom so I run to the bathroom to hide, the door busts open and I wake up. I never got any further in that dream.

Here recently, I have been having a dream about the lord coming back. I don’t know where I’m at but I’m out on the streets where there are markets. I see people walking and buying things, they don’t look like Americans so again, I don’t know where I’m at. I look up and the clouds start to part, then the sky and I see a massive figure step down and people start screaming and running. The figure is blurry and I can’t see his face, but I can feel that it’s God. People start disappearing and I’m scared. I start to run and I wake from the dream.
